Overview

PG Department of Social Work was established in 2004. There are 3 members in the department. All have cleared NET & PhD. The Department is working with the vision to prepare students to effectively deal with psychosocial problems of the society through Social Work methods. Excellence in Social Work education, Quality training for students, to create critical thinking and bold action to address social problems, Successful student transition to employment are the working objectives of the Department. The programme offers three specializations, Medical and Psychiatry/Human Resource Management and Community Development.

Programme Outcomes (POs)

• PO: 1 - Students will develop a strong understanding of core values, ethics, human behavior, and critical thinking. These foundations will guide their professional judgment and enhance their practice in the field of Social Work.
• PO: 2 - Students will apply their knowledge of social conditions, policies, research, and practice theories to promote meaningful change and effective social action.
• PO: 3 - Students will integrate theory and research with communication, assessment, advocacy, leadership, and problem-solving skills to effectively support individuals, groups, and communities.
• PO: 4 - Students will be prepared to perform as professional social workers in direct practice with individuals, families, groups, and organizations. They will apply their skills with competence and compassion to address diverse social needs.
• PO: 5 - Students will engage in evidence-based practice and research to critically analyze social issues. They will use this knowledge to design and implement effective solutions at individual, community, and societal levels.

Programme Educational Objectives (PEOs)

• To prepare students of Social Work for professional practice and continuous development through the planning and implementation of schemes and services grounded in the core principles of Social Work.
• To equip students to proactively address social problems, mobilize public opinion against social skills, and challenges wherever they occur.
• To train students to think critically and clearly, demonstrate professional integrity, and collaborate in team settings.
• To provide students with current theories, knowledge, and practical skills to enable them to become competent professionals in their respective fields.
• To prepare students who are committed to making meaningful contributions to social welfare and to supporting social service organizations at the local, state, and national levels.

Programme Specific Outcomes (PSOs)

• Students will develop an understanding of core values and ethical principles, apply knowledge of human behavior, and cultivate critical thinking skills to inform and communicate professional judgments. They will analyze the social environment to guide ethical and professional social work practice.
• Students will be able to draw on knowledge of social conditions and problems, human behavior, social policies and programs, social phenomena, research, the social work profession, and various practice theories. They will apply this knowledge to facilitate change and translate understanding into effective social action.
• Students will be able to integrate theory and research to enhance professional practice. They will demonstrate effective communication, active listening, assessment, and interviewing skills; provide support, guidance, and empowerment; and apply negotiation, advocacy, leadership, and critical thinking abilities. In addition, students will utilize organizational, documentation, and intervention skills; develop a deep understanding of human relationships; and apply problem-solving strategies to support individuals, groups, and communities.
• Students will be able to perform as professional social workers, engaging in advanced direct practice with individuals, families, groups, and organizations.
• Students will engage in scientific inquiry and evidence-based practice to address social issues and problems. They will identify and formulate research questions, conduct literature reviews, and analyze complex problems at the individual, group, organizational, and community levels using research-based knowledge and methodologies.
• Students will deepen their understanding of human rights, community well-being, and social, economic, and environmental justice, and will integrate these principles into their professional social work practice.
