About the Department

PG & Reseach Department of Social Work was established in 2004 and it was upgraded as research Department in 2013 offering M.Phil in SocialWork. There are 5 members in the department. 4 are doctorates. All have cleared NET.

The Department is working with the vision to prepare students to effectively deal with psychosocial problems of the society through Social Work methods. Excellence in Social Work education, Quality training for students, to create critical thinking and bold action to address social problems, Successful student transition to employment are the working objectives of the Department. The programme offers three specializations, Medical and Psychiatry/Human Resource Management and Community Development

Highlights of the Department

The Department has certain unique features such as Orientation Visits, Regular Lecture Programmes from eminent persons, Fieldwork training, Block Placement , Use of latest information and communication technologies, Resource sharing, collaboration and networking with University and other Institutions, Socially and academically relevant programmes based on students need analysis.

The Department has organized number of National and International conferences and Workshops individually as well as in collaboration with Bharathidasan University based on cluster concepts.

Staff and students participate and present papers in number of conferences. They also publish regularly in reputed journals.

100% of the students get placed every year as counselors in NGOs, hospitals, schools, and in industries.
