About the Department

The Department of Physics, Shrimati Indira Gandhi College is one of the oldest and vibrant departments of the college, serving the student community for the past three decades. Established in the year 1984 as an allied department for Maths with two staff members, it then flourished into major department in the year 1987 and has been offering B.Sc. Physics with Maths and Computer Science as allied subjects. The department has got permanent affiliation for two sections of UG in 1994. The introduction of PG program in Physics in the year 2003 is one of the milestones in its journey. There are 12 faculty members in our department. 5 of them are doctorates and 4 are pursuing Ph.D. 1 of them completed UGC NET. All of them have well experienced faculties.

About the LAB

The department has spacious and well equipped lab with necessary amenities – with latest instrumentation and a darkroom provision for doing spectrum photography experiments. The Computer facilities are available in the lab for doing C++ Practicals.
