Department of English
Overview
The Department of English, established in 1984, introduced the B.A. English Literature programme in 2009. It promotes learner-centred and participatory education through discussions, presentations, seminars, literary activities, and co-curricular initiatives. With the guidance of experienced faculty, students develop strong linguistic, literary, analytical, critical thinking, communication, and writing skills, preparing them for diverse academic and professional opportunities.

To foster intellectually vibrant, socially responsible, and globally aware graduates with critical thinking, creative abilities, and effective communication skills, enriched through the study of language, literature, and culture.

The students will be able to:
- Appreciate literature's role in reflecting and shaping cultural, moral and social values across time and geographies.
- Cultivate an aesthetic appreciation of language and narrative and apply literary insight in creative and effective writing.
- Analyze literary texts using various critical theoretical and cultural framework to develop informed and independent interpretation.
- Integrate knowledge from another discipline and global literary tradition to deepen understanding and foster inclusive perspectives.
- Develop skills for lifelong learning including critical analysis, adaptability, and communication that are valuable in diverse career paths such as teaching, writing, media, publishing and civil services.
