"Earn while you learn" Scheme Our College is a pioneer in introducing novel schemes for the students. To name a few - Book Bank Scheme, Earn while learn scheme, Remedial Teaching, Career Guidance and Co Entrepreneur Development Scheme etc., Although these Schemes help students in academics, financial assistance and placement the "Earn while learn scheme" is a unique scheme.
In the past students who needed support were identified and employed in the library, hostel mess, canteen etc., and were paid wages commensurate with the amount of work turned out by them on an hourly basis. The scheme picked up momentum and definite projects have been identified. This is a suggestion given by " Dr. C. Thangamuthu, Vice-Chancellor, Bharathidasan University. Our college has been implementing his ideas and is attracting students from all disciplines who are skilled in some aspect apart from academics.
The students have been encouraged by the management and work from outside has been brought to campus wherein students with technical skills are employed. For instance - About 100 students were involved in this data con work for a Multi - National Company. All these students had undergone a course in data entry operations in our college besides their regular course.
Two such projects have been completed in the past and students were selected on the basis of the typing speed approximately 35 words per minute and an accuracy level of 99.5%. The job work for four weeks and they were paid Rs. 40 per day. Their speed and accuracy was very much appreciated and the company promised to give us more projects of this kind. The management provides the infrastructure to the students as and when required.
Not content with doing job work for outside agencies the management , showed that lot of purposeful projects can be done within the campus. This was the beginning of students taking responsibility of the Book Bank Scheme of our college. This Book Bank Scheme is a charitable practice of the college aimed at supporting financially weak students. These students were selected from all majors at the UG level and two students namely P.Shantha Sheela of I M.Sc., biochemistry and Tamilselvi of III B.A Economics have taken charge of meeting the students selected for the book bank scheme and also announcing the date of issue of books. They monitor the lending and specifically return the collection of books back to the library in good condition. This has simplified the work of the librarian. The students doing this work are paid handsomely by the management.
